Top tips to reduce condensation

  1. Dry your washing outside the property whenever you can. Refrain from drying laundry on radiators.
  2. Air out your kitchen, bathroom and laundry room during or just after use. Because outside air usually contains less water vapour, it will “dilute” the humidity of inside air.
  3. While cooking, always cover pans and don't leave kettles boiling. Use an extractor fan if you have one.
  4. Ventilate cupboards and wardrobes - do not overfill wardrobes - let the air circulate freely inside.
  5. Contact JB Damp Proofing to arrange the installation of a condensation unit.

Condensation Units

A condensation unit is essential in modern homes where it is difficult to get the balance between heating and ventilation just right. If ventilating your property is a problem and leaves you with cold drafts and an expensive heating bill then a condensation unit is a cost effective way to control condensation and damp.

How do condensation units compare to dehumidifiers?

A dehumidifier extracts the moisture within the air. They do not ventilate a home, they draw all the moisture from the home, leading to dry throats/coughs. They are large, heavy and intrusive items, very costly to run, can be noisy and need to emptied regularly as the water chamber fills up.

A condensation unit is compact, quiet and consumes very little power (running cost of an average light bulb). It requires no emptying or day to day maintenance. One unit is all you need (for up an average property with up to 3 bedrooms) and this can be either wall mounted for properties without loft space, or loft mounted if you have loft access. Each unit has a filter which should ideally be replaced once a year and the unit should also be serviced annually to ensure it will serve as an effective condensation control for many years to come.
